How to Prepare for Black Friday

How to Prepare for Black Friday

Black Friday is a date most retailers look forward to each year.

It's the day most profits are made, where most people are spending.

Therefore, it's vital you prepare for this in advance to maximise the impact this day has on your business.

Start preparing now!

You should be preparing for this now.

Start building your stock levels, if this isn't your first Black Friday then think about what you sold last year and make adjustments to ensure you have enough items in stock. You definitely don't want to sell out if you can help it.

If this will be your first Black Friday, or perhaps your first significant one, then a pro-tip is to run a report (easy in Shopify) of your best selling products from this year so far.

This will give you a good idea of what people will most likely buy and what you need to stock up on.

Start getting your marketing in order too:

  • Add leaflets to all orders advising customers of your discount.
  • Create a Facebook Event and start inviting your customers to it. Facebook Events always get better reach and engagement than normal Facebook posts.
  • Send out emailers to warm people up to the idea,

The sooner you start doing this, the sooner people will mentally put money aside to spend with you.

Discounts to provide

I don't like percentage-based discounts. However, Black Friday is the one time of the year where this works best.

Do something BIG that you wouldn't normally do; 30%-40% off is great. Or offer people something for free if they spend over a certain amount.

This isn't a sales event where you'll make big profits off each sale - it's more of a 'quantity over quality' day. That being said, you'll likely receive some of your largest orders on this day.

Post-sale

After the sales event, put out social media posts thanking people and letting them know how many orders you've received and how long you think it'll take to dispatch them all.

People will still expect orders super-quick, so if it's going to take you longer than normal to dispatch them all be sure to let your customers know multiple times to avoid disappointment.

Get them dispatched as quickly as you can. It might sound obvious, but the last thing you want are negative reviews or refund requests because orders have taken too long to arrive.

Once you're all done, review the event, run reports to see what worked and use this to learn to make sure next year's is even better!

Here's to a prosperous Black Friday for you all.

Any questions, please feel free to reply.
